As other sexy brands like Starbucks (SBUX) and Target (TGT) chase each other to win fans on pages under the umbrellas of their company names, Apple has taken a more nuanced approach. Instead of creating an official Apple page to gather fans at large, the company focuses its efforts on specific product pages that function more as selling platforms than fanclubs. Great idea so they don’t have to think about relevancy of messaging or whether or not they are communicating effectively. I enjoyed reading this article about the IPad. I think this point is right on. I’ve always been frustrated by Apple and the un-open architecture. A little off topic but I use Itunes daily and on a daily basis Itunes annoys the heck out of me. Either way I’d give this article a read it’s great…. I’m Really Worried About What Apple Is Trying To Do With The iPad.
I love new ways to find my target market. Here is one with a twist. I’ve always used the site search in google but I’ve been using a new twist on this for Facebook. By using the site search this way you are picking up what google sees as the most trusted and relevant people in for these keywords. To me it makes sense then to engage with these people, fanpages, and fans.
Here is an example:
Let’s say your target market colors their hair. colored my hair search
While this type of search really only finds fan pages, if you truly understand your niche it is another way to search for your target market based on the authority of google.
